The World of Polyurea Coating

Polyurea has been around the industry for decades and it’s still growing in popularity today. It’s a revolutionary new material that offers a number of benefits over traditional polyurethane and other materials. It is strong, lightweight, impact resistant, and versatile. Below are polyurea spray coating benefits explained simply. Read on to learn more.

polyurea coating

Durability. Polyurea is an extremely tough material with a high level of thermal resistance, making it perfect for tough working conditions such as truck bed liners. It’s also chemical and water resistant. Temperature tolerance. Polyurea coatings can be safely used over a wide temperature range with some very specific, specialized formulations, without losing protective properties or its shape from -25 degrees Fahrenheit to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

High impact resistance. The polyurea coating is formulated with a high level of an isocyanate (an isocyanate) component and a polyurethane (reinforced polyurethane) blend component. Because an isocyanate component can enhance the longevity and resilience of the coating, it is sometimes included in bedliners that don’t have other protective components such as stain guard. The polyurethane itself will keep most stains and spills from wearing away at the coating over time.

Versatility. Polyurea spray bed liners can resist liquid penetration and most other forms of stains, but they are also versatile in how they can be applied. You can spray it on, lay it on top of, or even blow it off if it’s wet. They also dry extremely fast, which makes them ideal for quick detail work and repairs where you need to be moving the liner in a short amount of time.

Rigidness. Polyurea liners are usually very rigid. They have been designed primarily to resist impacts and still provide a light but thick layer of protection against most weather conditions, so they are ideal for a full-size bedliner application.

Reinforcement. Since polyurea coating sprays are generally water-based, they have excellent chemical resistance. But the best polyurea coating sprays are made from a resin that resists moisture penetration. To make these products even more corrosion resistant, manufacturers combine them with chemical resistance additives that further increase their chemical resistance. These additives are typically water based and are effective in preventing corrosion of concrete by forming a seal with the concrete and protecting it chemically.

Formation of Polyurea Cans. Polyurea can be defined as the result of a chemical reaction between an isocyanate and an alkali. When these two chemicals react with each other, a chemical chain is formed. One type of this reaction produces the alkali, which reacts with the amine. The other type of reaction produces the amine, which reacts with the alkali.

High Tensile Strength. Polyurea coatings have high tensile strength, which means that they can withstand a lot of force. They also can be cut as a sharp edge. However, polyurea coatings are very expensive and only available in limited thicknesses. The best polyurea coating systems are produced with various levels of hardness, chemical resistance, and abrasion resistance in mind.
